Everything on The Voice has lead up to this. Tonight kicked off a three night event of live playoffs for The Voice. Tonight Team Adam and Team Usher took the stage, the performances were stripped down so the audience could focus on the vocals. Tomorrow night Team Blake and Team Shakira will take the stage. On Wednesday night the results will be announced.

After an intense team workout session, Team Usher took the stage as a group first to sing, “Black and Gold.”

First up in the live playoffs was Amber Carrington from Team Adam. Carrington chose to sing, “Stay,” by Rihanna. Carrington took on the Rihanna song in order to show a non-rock side of herself to the audience. Shelton said that it is often hard to go first in the live rounds but that Carrington set the bar pretty high. Usher said that America after hearing that song is now more aware of Carrington’s vocal style. Shakira added that she is very glad that Levine turned around for her and that was a beautiful performance. Her coach, Levine said that it is hard to stay fully engaged in a song like “Stay, but that Carrington had Levine for every second of that performance and she could not have done a more incredible job.

Following Carrington was Josiah Hawley from Team Usher. The song that Hawley is performing was “Starlight” by Muse. Shakira said that Hawley rocked it and this was his best performance so far. Levine added that it was a tough song and that Hawley delivered a great performance. Shelton said that he doesn’t know anything about rock ‘n’ roll but that he liked the performance. Hawley’s coach Usher said that he felt like a proud coach and that Hawley really performed a difficult song.

Sarah Simmons took the stage next. Simmons performed, “Angel,” by Sarah Mclachlan. Shelton said that performance was beautiful and amazing. Usher said that the song was very complicated and that Simmons really came out and did a great job with the song. Shakira added that the performance was incredible. Her coach, Levine said that he could feel the stillness in the room because they were captivated by the performance and that she is one of the most incredible singers that he has ever heard in his life.

Next up from Team Usher was Cathia, who performed a Whitney Houston classic, “I Have Nothing.” Former coach Shakira started off the coaches comments by saying that she did great but there was something about the song choice that didn’t sit well with her. Shelton added that he thought the performance was really good. Cathia’s coach Usher said that this was a make or break moment for Cathia and that she performed that song with the confidence that she needed.

A Voice first happened when Levine and Usher took the stage for a special coaches duet. The coaches performed a Stevie Wonder classic, “Superstitious.”

Following that dynamic duo, Caroline Glaser from Team Adam. Glaser sang, “The A Team,” by Ed Sheeran. Shelton said that he did enjoy what he was hearing from Glaser even though he wasn’t familiar with the song. Usher said that the performance was very soothing and that Glaser was very relaxed and controlled. Levine added that Glaser is a powerhouse vocalists because she what she does is unique and special.

Following Glaser was Vedo from Team Usher. Vedo sang, “Against All Odds,” by Phil Collins. Shakira said that the audience loved Vedo’s performance. Levine added that the one thing he doesn’t like about Vedo is that he isn’t on Team Adam. Vedo’s coach Usher said that he was 100 percent pleased with his performance and that he is on track for success in this competition.

Michelle Chamuel took the stage as the final member of Team Usher to perform. Chamuel sang, “True Colors,” by Phil Collins. Shakira said that the performance was authentic and she really went for the performance. Levine said that this was a breakout moment for Chamuel. Shelton turned to his team and said that Chamuel was what they should strive to perform like. Chamuel’s coach Usher said that it was a breakout moment and truly amazing.

Judith Hill was the final vocalist of the night representing Team Adam. Hill performed, “Feeling Good,” by Nina Simone. Usher said that his comment for Hill will always be whey did he not fight harder to have Hill on his team. Levine added that there is not much that he can say because everyone loves her and that she can show her personality while she sings.

Tomorrow the live playoffs continue. Team Shakira and Team Blake take the stage tomorrow night.
