The Voice top ten took the stage tonight to battle it out for America’s vote. Before the vocalists performed, Maroon 5 took to the stage to sing their new single off of Overexposed, “Love Somebody.”
Taking the stage first was Holly Tucker from Team Blake. Tucker sang, “How Great Thou Art.” Usher started off the judges’ comments by saying that Tucker made a great statement. Levine added that it was a great performance, Shelton also commented on how great the song choice and that Tucker turned up her performance a notch one more at the right time during the competition.
Following Tucker was Judith Hill from Team Adam. Hill took on “The Way You Make Me Feel,” by Michael Jackson. Hill used to be a back up singer for Jackson on his “This Is It,” tour. Hill was overwhelmed with emotion when she was asked to perform this record. Shelton said that you could never say anything negative about Hill, it is always good. Usher said that he felt those emotions as well listening to the song and that he missed Jackson as well. Levine said that Hill really celebrated everything and that the audience was very understanding of those emotions.
The Swon Brothers from Team Blake took the stage next. The Swon Brothers took on “How Country Feels,” by Randy Houser. Shakira said that every time The Swon Brothers sing she feels good and that the duo brightens her mood. Levine said that the performance was a lot of fun and he becomes a bigger fan every time they perform. Shelton said that the duo has a thing going on and that people are really starting to see the duo as stars and artists.
Amber Carrington from Team Adam took the stage next to perform a Kelly Clarkson classic in “Breakaway.” Shelton started off the comments by saying that it was a good call for Carrington to perform a Clarkson song. Usher added that the arrangement was personalized and he loved it. Shakira said that the song was right in Carrington’s wheelhouse and she did great as always. Coach Levine added that the fact that Carrington can perform a Clarkson song sets the tone.
Team Shakira took the stage next with Sasha Allen. Shakira was joined by a special guest mentor, former Voice coach, Cee Lo Green. Allen took on, “Next to Me,” by Emeli Sande. Levine started off the comments by saying that the performance was great and that he was happy she took on a pop song in her own way. Shelton said that it was a great vocal performance with high energy. Usher echoed Shelton by saying that Allen put her own style on this song and that she had fun this week. Shakira exclaimed that she was so happy and proud of Allen.
Up next, from Team Usher was Josiah Hawley who performed “Clocks,” by Coldplay. Shakira said that Hawley did a great job and could barley get a word in over the female audience members screaming for Hawley. Shakira then went on to explain that it is hard for Coldplay to be performed but that the coaches are wanting more from their artists every week. Levine said that a few moments felt insecure but then he felt like Hawley brought in the audience more. Shelton added that last week Hawley really set the bar high but the song had a few holes in it. Hawley’s coach said that this will only make Hawley better as an artist.
Danielle Bradbery from Team Blake took on a country classic and sang, “Heads Carolina Tails California.” Levine said that it is every sixteen years old dream to sing like Bradbery does. Coach Shelton added that he could go on and on about Danielle because she is amazing but in regards to that performance, it was carefree and that the audience can just get into the music.
Following Bradbery was Kris Thomas from Team Shakira. Shakira chose “Adore,” by Miguel. Levine said that Thomas sounded great but he would like to see Thomas open up more. Usher added that Thomas really can do anything and his voice is incredible. Shakira said that the important thing about this show is to showcase the talent here in America and that Thomas has a sound that sets him apart in this competition.
The last artist from Team Adam to take the stage was Sarah Simmons. Simmons performed, Jessie J.’s “Mamma Knows Best.” Simmons performance brought Levine to his feet. Shelton said that it was a full on rock performance and that Simmons turned a corner musically as well during this performance. Usher simply said, if you got it, you got it. Levine had to cool himself off at that performance, saying that Simmons was awesome and he loved hearing Shelton swoon over Simmons.
Closing the show was Michelle Chamuel from Team Usher. Chamuel took on the current top 40 single, “Just Give Me A Reason,” by P!nk and featuring Nate Ruess from Fun. Levine said that he was a fan of Chamuel and was very proud to watch Chamuel perform. Shelton added that he loves how dramatic Chamuel is when she is performing. Usher said that Chamuel’s performance was the performance of the night.
The live results show will be NBC tomorrow night.
