The Voice is down to the top twelve and tonight the live playoffs continue. All of the teams took the stage tonight to perform for America’s vote. The competition is heating up on The Voice even without the air conditioning system working in the Voice studio.
Starting off the performances was Vedo from Team Usher. Vedo chose to perform, “I Wanna Rock With You,” by Michael Jackson. Shakira started off the comments by saying that the performance had a strong vibe and that all of the coaches like him. Shelton added that the dancing and the chorography relay added to the performance. Usher said that his hard work will pay off and he is proud of Vedo.
Team Blake took the stage next with a performance from Holly Tucker. Tucker sang, Martina McBride’s classic, “Broken Wing.” Usher said that Tucker took the performance through the roof and Shakira added to those positive comments by sang, “Dang Girl,” taking a page from Shelton’s book. Levine said that he always though Tucker was great and this is another example of her being great. Shelton said that Tucker’s performance did justice do McBride’s song.
Following Tucker was Garrett Gardner from Team Shakira who took on a Backstreet Boys classic, “I Want It That Way.” Levine started off the coaches’ comments by saying that this song wasn’t his favorite song choice for Gardner, even though the performance was cool. Shelton said that Shakira was doing the right thing by challenging Gardner and pushing him, Usher agreed. Shakira said that Gardner was charismatic and has a lot of fans and that tomorrow a lot of people will be downloading this performance.
Sarah Simmons from Team Adam followed Team Shakira. Simmons sang, “The Story,” by Brandi Carlile. Shelton said that this was one of his favorite performances from Simmons. Shakira said that she had never heard this song before but this song really made Simmons shine and that this showcased her vocal abilities. Levine said that there was a refined diversity in her vocal performance and that she is one of the best singers they have had in this competition so far.
Following Simmons was The Swon Brothers, the first duo ever to make it the top twelve, “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes,” by George Jones. The Swon Brothers chose to honor Jones in this performance. Levine said that the duo really delivered their performance he forgot it was a competition for a moment. Shelton added that he really wanted America to know that The Swon Brothers wanted do this performance on their own terms and it was their idea. Shelton said this performance was their breakout moment as a duo.
Sasha Allen took the stage next to take on Heart’s classic, “Alone.” Levine said that the performance was amazing. Usher said that Allen went towards the theatrics but that Allen really took the audience to church. Coach Shakira that Allen has one of the best voices she has ever heard and that the performance was heartfelt and beautiful.
Josiah Hawley from Team Usher took to the stage to perform, “The Man That Can’t Moved,” by The Script. Hawley chose to perform this song in an acoustic session. Shelton said that combination of Hawley and Coach Usher is a very good match and that Hawley gave one of his favorite performances tonight. Usher added that Hawley really trusted his own instincts and really changed the song.
Following Hawley was Danielle Bradbery; Shelton chose a Carrie Underwood classic for Bradbery to perform in “Wasted.” Shakira started off the comments by saying that the live rounds really show you who an artist is and that when Bradbery performs she can never sense nerves and is beyond impressive. Levine said that if the competition ended today Bradbery would be the one to beat. Shelton added that she really is just an all American girl; she hasn’t changed at all during this competition.
Judith Hill took the stage next and sang, “You’ve Got a Friend,” by Carole King. Shelton started off the judges’ comments by saying that every week the coaches can count on greatness from Hill. Usher added that Hill is fully in control of her destiny and that Hill keeps showing different sides of her musical abilities to America. Levine said that having Hill play the piano and sing is a talent that cannot be taught.
Michelle Chamuel, the last member of Team Usher to perform, sang “Call Your Girlfriend,” by Robyn. After the performance Shakira was left with all smiles and said that Chamuel is becoming a pro. Levine said that Chamuel is becoming one of his favorites because she is 100 percent unique. Usher said that Chamuel was incredible and that every time Chamuel sings she leaves everything on the stage.
The last vocalists from Team Shakira to perform was Kris Thomas, who sang “I’ll Be There,” by the Jackson 5. Shelton added that Thomas is always proving himself to people and that this week is no different. Usher said that there are a few things that Thomas needs to work on and that it was a difficult song. Shakira added that Thomas sang like he really wanted to win the competition tonight.
Closing the show was Team Adam’s Amber Carrington. Carrington sang, Martina McBride’s “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.” This was the second McBride song of the night. With only moments in this show Shelton added that Carrington did McBride proud and country music proud. Usher said that Carrington defies the laws of gravity and just continues to give more every time she performs. Shakira said that she was excited to hear a country song and she appreciates the performance from Carrington. Levine added that Carrington continues to impress him every time he hears her sings.
The vote is now up to America. The live results show will be taking place on NBC tomorrow night.
