On Tuesday night's result show, NBC's The Voice said goodbye to yet another two contestants, whittling the competition down to six competitors as the talent competition inches towards its season finale.

Singers Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons, both members of coach Adam Levine's team, were sent home at the end of the night, a shocker, as E Online reports, since the two were largely considered front-runners and fan favorites.

Both Hill and Simmons had delivered consistent performances on the show thus far, making them seemingly viable contenders for the reality show's season four title. Hill, a former backup singer for the late Michael Jackson, was known for energetic pop performances, while Simmons delivered soulful performances throughout the competition.

The night was packed with suspense and performances leading up to the results. Team captain Blake Shelton performed with Sheryl Crow on her new single, "Easy," to kick off the night, and team members were mixed and matched for duets and group performances throughout the show.

Before receiving the boot, Hill performed Calvin Harris and Florence Welch's "Sweet Nothing" alongside Team Usher's Michelle Chamuel. Team Blake's country duo The Swon Brothers and Team Shakira's Sasha Allen teamed up for Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson's "Don't You Wanna Stay," while Simmons and Blake's Danielle Bradbery sang Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years."

The duets ended with Amber Carrington of Team Adam and Holly Tucker of Team Blake performing their rendition of Reba McEntire's "Does He Love You" before Hill and Simmons were sent home.

At the beginning of the night, host Carson Daly asked the judges about their teams and coaching styles. Shakira, who's team is down to one performer, Allen, said, according to USA Today, "if she is sent home tonight, it's because her coach made a mistake."

Usher praised Chamuel, his final singer, by saying she was "an incredible example of what it is to believe in yourself, and find that inner voice."

Adam, who coached the both Hill and Simmons, said he believed his singers needed to "sort of twist to put on what they do" in order to shake things up in the competition and stand out.

Heading into next week's final six, Teams Shakira, Adam and Usher each have one singer, while Team Blake is represented by three singers. Of the singers remaining, four of the six are country artists.

The Voice airs on NBC at 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday nights.
