Well, it's that time of the year. Anyone who's anyone is getting married during this 2013 wedding season. In order to show you how it's done right, here are the Top 10 television and movie weddings.
10. Parks and Recreation: Andy and April are a lot like the Parks and Rec target demographic: young and fun loving. Their love story on the show is one of the most realistic, if zany, examples on television. So it only makes sense that they're simple nuptials are the greatest display of modern wedding conventions ever seen on television.
9. Twilight: This makes the list mainly because Harry Potter didn't feature a wedding. The Twilight wedding epitomizes the culminating love in the young adult novel market. Juxtapose it with Andy and April's simple ceremony and you see how focused on fantasy-fulfillment the vampire story was. Not the mention the media hype regarding the dress.
8. Wedding Crashers: Weddings are supposed to be fun, and this movie is all about fun at weddings. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson do a great job encapsulating the party element of modern weddings.
7. Friends: While Friends was all about following the lives of six intricate characters, the wedding chosen from that show is all about being modern. This episode is from before gay marriage was even that big of a topic. The best part about it was that it was simply a wedding. Though, a wedding with funny hats.
6. X-Men: This one might be a cheat. While Scott Summers and Jean Grey never really wed either in the movies or on the 1990's X-Men: The Animated Series, their love and eventual wedding was a huge story element to both. Plus, they did share vows in the comics. For geeks, this was and still is a huge event. X-Men was about youth and adventure, and the best part about the X-Men wedding is that it did not stop the youth and adventure. Turns out that married people can battle evil too.
5. Saved by the Bell: Culminating cathartic event much? The Saved by the Bell wedding special was almost too much for many of us. It thoroughly closed the door on a generation's youth. Like most weddings, it brought together old friends in new ways. But it was really about Zach and Kelly's crazy long relationship.
4. The Princess Bride: This is the only wedding on the list that didn't result in marriage. Which is ironic, because it makes the list for its memorable shouting of that word. It's hard to go to wedding this day without a horrible impression of this guy:
3. Reality television weddingsL There are too many of these to list, but here's a simple breakdown. The show either features a psycho bride, bridesmaid, or mother who takes over the show and makes outlandish demands. The groom and fathers are either defiant jerks or pushover nitwits. Then, at the last moment, the program throws on some pretty music and end up liking the wedding. Regardless, these shows epitomize the drama that fuels many weddings and which is quite fun to watch.
2. The Office: No love story has ever put so many tears on my face. We all knew it was going to happen eventually and they delivered. From Jim's heartfelt speech to the outrageous dancing entrance, it felt like a The Office wedding. Then the kicker of the bride and groom sneaking off beforehand for a private wedding was just tear-fueling genius.
1. Father of the Bride: You come into this movie hating the idea of the wedding. Steve Martin's cynicism makes the groom look like a selfish idiot and you begin to fear the day he takes the daughter away. However, when the wedding finally happens, everything clicks. Only Steve Martin could put us through such a wringer of hate and love.
