The 40th Daytime Emmy Awards took place on Sunday night and Days of Our Lives’ win for best daytime drama wasn’t the only surprise of the night. It was not one of the best organized award shows, since The Talk’s Aisha Taylor had to wing it when she was handed the wrong envelope.
According to Deadline, Taylor and the other Talk hosts were on the stage to present the Best Informative Talk Show Emmy, but she was handed the wrong envelope and had to fill time while someone ran to get her the correct envelope. The Dr. Oz Show was the winner in the category.
The show was also filled with several microphone and speaker problems. Co-host Robin Meade was actually heard saying backstage “Can you guys hear me? You can? This is my song from my album!” during a commercial break on HLN. Corbin Bernsen had an unbleeped f-bomb.
Star Wars creator George Lucas finally won his first Emmy as executive producer on Star Wars: The Clone Wars for its final season. The show won the Outstanding Special Class Animated Program Emmy.
According to The LA Times, Days of Our Lives won outstanding daytime drama, even though it lost other categories to General Hospital, The Young & The Restless and Bold and the Beautiful.
Ellen Degeneres won outstanding entertainment talk show, while Ricki Lake won outstanding talk show host.
