The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has tapped Kate Mara and Aaron Paul to announce this year’s Emmy nominations next month.
The Academy said that the Primetime Emmy Awards Nominations Day telecast will be produced by Spike Jones Jr. again. It will be held at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood and be streamed live at Emmys.com on July 18. Television fans on the West Coast will have to wake up early that day, since the nominees will be announced at 5:30 a.m. Pacific Time.
Mara currently stars on Netflix’s House of Cards and the fact that the Academy considers her a TV star should bode well for the series, which is only available on Netflix. The show premiered in February, with all 13 episodes posted at the same time. Mara, who has appeared in Iron Man 2, Brokeback Mountain and in other films, co-stars with Kevin Spacey in the political drama. She plays journalist Zoe Barnes.
Paul stars on AMC’s Breaking Bad. He won Emmys for his supporting role on the show in 2010 and 2012. Paul is currently working on Disney’s Need for Speed, which will be out in March 2014.
The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on Sept. 22 in Los Angeles. CBS is broadcasting this year, with Neil Patrick Harris as host for a second time.
