In the second episode of Teen Wolf season 3, “Chaos Rising,” Isaac undergoes some painful experiences in order to recover vital information so the others can find Boyd and Erica.
The episode begins with Scott and Stiles headed to a party thrown by one of Stiles’ friends from another school, Heather. When they get to the party, Heather kisses Stiles and then takes him down to the basement wine cellar and asks if he wants to have sex. She tells him to go get condoms from a bathroom upstairs, so he does and finds out there are only XXL sized. Allison and Lydia come to talk to Scott and show him their matching bruises. Heather is in the basement waiting for Stiles when wine bottles start shooting off the shelves. She tries to move but keeps stepping on all the broken glass. The crashing stops when she backs up to the window. Someone or something pulls her through the open window. Stiles comes back downstairs but can’t find her, and the wine bottles don’t appear to be broken.
At Derek’s loft, Isaac and Derek talk about Peter. Isaac admits his doesn’t trust Peter, and mentions Scott doesn’t either. Peter shows up and digs his nail into Isaac’s neck to try to get some of his memories. Peter sees flashes he believes are Boyd and Erica, and Deucalion, the Alpha Pack leader. Deucalion told them they would both die by the full moon, which is the next night.
Scott has Derek look at the bruises on Lydia and Allison’s arms. He claims that bruises mean nothing, and then points out that Lydia revived Peter and Allison attacked his pack. Stiles tells them all to calm down because no one died. Derek then tells Scott he needs to tell Allison why he ended up biting her mother. In economics Scott answers a question right and impresses Coach Finstock. He learns about risk and reward, all the factors that will ultimately affect an outcome. Sheriff Stilinski shows up and asks Stiles about Heather, because she’s missing. Stiles says he thought she left him to go hang out with her friends. In the library, Lydia and Danny flirt with the Alpha twins. Meanwhile, Allison has a breakthrough about the bruises on their arms and thinks they form a logo for a company.
Scott, Derek, and Stiles take Isaac to Dr. Deaton to try and figure out if they can dig deeper and find more of his memories from when he discovered Boyd and Erica. Isaac gets in a freezing ice bath to lower his temperature until he’s basically dead. Scott, Stiles, and Derek hold him down. Deaton talks to him about his memories of finding his pack members. He says he heard Boyd saying he was scared he was going to hurt someone. He also remembers being found by an Alpha, a bank vault, and seeing Erica’s body. Derek says Erica can’t be dead because there was still a girl in the vault with Boyd. Stiles finds out the bank was robbed before, so they just have to figure out how the thieves broke into the vault. Scott and Stiles research and discover the Sheriff was the one who worked the case, so he questions him.
Stiles explains to Derek, Scott, and Peter how the thieves got into the bank vault. Derek says he’s going to break in with his fist, and punches Stiles’ hand to prove his strength. Peter tells them it’s not worth it to try and rescue the werewolves. Scott decides to go with Derek to rescue Boyd and whoever the girl is who is with him.
Allison tells Lydia about the symbol on their arm being the bank logo. Allison breaks into the bank later on in the day and is cornered by Ms. Morrell, who tells her to hide in a closet until she hears people fighting. Allison listens and knocks over ammonia to block her smell from the werewolves. She uses her cell phone’s light to look around the closet and sees Erica’s dead body.
Back at Derek’s loft, Stiles is rambling to Peter about the bank. Stiles is questioning all the Alpha’s motives thus far and then Peter asks him what material was used to build the vault walls. Scott tells Derek they don’t know a lot of information and he says it’s been four months since the Alpha Pack showed up, and wonders at their motives for waiting. Derek says it doesn’t matter because he’s going to risk his life for his pack, even if Scott doesn’t join him. Scott does join him, and the two break into the vault. Peter tells Stiles he needs to call the duo because Boyd and whoever is with him will kill Derek and Scott. Derek breaks the wall down, which lets in moonlight for the first time in months. The material the wall was made of scatters moonlight. It’s made it so the two werewolves are much stronger because they haven’t been able to shift in months.
Derek looks over at the werewolves and sees one is Cora, his little sister. He believed Cora was dead. Ms. Morrell closes the room with mountain ash so they are all trapped. She then leaves with Deucalion. The werewolves all fight against each other. Allison leaves the closet and sees Scott and Derek are losing the fight, so she breaks the mountain ash seal despite Derek’s warning. Boyd and Cora run out of the bank. Derek gets angry at Allison and the three have a conversation about how the Argent’s are killers. Derek brings up her mother and tells Scott to tell Allison the truth, even though now isn’t the best time given two incredibly strong werewolves just escaped. The episode ends with Lydia sitting in her bed, screaming and thrashing around.
Quotes and Comments:
“I still don’t like him.” “Nobody likes him.” (Isaac and Derek about Peter)
“O.K. Who’s next? Greenberg put your hand down, you don’t have a chance.” (Coach Finstock asking who wants to play a game in class)
“Where do you live?” “In an underground network of caves hidden deep in the woods.” “Whoa, really?” “No, you idiot. In an apartment downtown.” (Stiles and Peter when Stiles questions were werewolves like to live)
I liked most of this episode, but I felt the first episode was better overall. I just found the entire Stiles/Heather scene completely awkward. I’m not sure where they’re going with that storyline, or if she was even taken by the Alpha Pack. There’s always the chance there’s something else preying on people. I’m sad about Erica’s death, even though I figured it was coming since the actress left the show. I’m happy Derek has another family member alive other than Peter. I’m glad Allison is finally going to learn everything about her mother attempting to murder Scott. She’s been through a lot of terrible experiences, and she should be told the truth for once. I hope Lydia is alright. I thought at first maybe she was having a vision, but I’m not sure.
