Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriots tight end, has reportedly been linked to two other murders. A second man has also been arrested in connection with the murder of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.
Hernandez was arrested at his North Attleboro, Massachusetts home on Wednesday morning. Just hours later, the team released him. During the arraignment Wednesday afternoon, Hernandez was officially charged with first degree murder and five gun charges. He pleaded not guilty and was denied bail.
The Associated Press reported Thursday that Carlos Ortiz, 27, has been arrested in connection with the murder of Lloyd. Ortiz was arrested Wednesday at his Bristol, Connecticut home and is currently being held in Hartford on $1.5 million bail.
Meanwhile, the press is learning more about the motive for Lloyd’s killing. According to law enforcement sources for Boston.com say that Hernandez could be linked to a July 2012 double murder in Boston. Two men, Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado, left a club in South Boston with three other men and were killed when someone in an SUV opened fire on their sedan. The murder remained unsolved.
The sources say that Lloyd could have had knowledge of the double murder. “The motive might have been that the victim knew [Hernandez] might have been involved,” one of the law enforcement officials is quoted as telling Boston.com.
