Amy Adams has quite an impression resume, having been in films such as The Fighter, Doubt, Charlie Wilson’s War and many more. In a new interview, she’s opening up about a crisis she had in her career when it came to a standstill after 2002’s Catch Me If You Can.
Adams, now a mother to 3-year-old Aviana and nominated for four Oscars in total, said she felt “lost and confused” after starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in the film.
Adams, 38, told Elle UK that she lost her confidence after the movie came out, and bombed auditions following its release.
“I choked. I felt this pressure to suddenly be this level of actress that I wasn’t confident enough to be. I did a series of really bad auditions, I let the nerves get the best of me,” she admitted.
She continued, “And the couple of years after that it was, "I can’t do this. I’m not strong enough to continue with this level of rejection". It was, "What am I going to do with my life?" I was staring down 30. I was lost, confused,” The Daily Mail notes.
Adams went on to say that she struggles with being a natural performer, and not wanting any attention. She said, "I like not being noticed. It has been a struggle because I love performing, but if I’m in a group of people and someone has a bigger personality I’m like "Go ahead, and have fun!" It looks like a lotta work.”
She also revealed having an "existential crisis" because of sitting next to Sean Penn and Meryl Streep at the Oscars.
She's come full circle since then, however, and can next be seen in Zack Snyder's Superman remake, Man Of Steel.
