Arrested Development is one of those shows that were short-lived and ended much sooner than it should have. This show has gained a huge fan base over the years that have been highly anticipating new episodes of this show since the announcement.

There was such a high level of anticipation for this new season that there was always a concern that this new season could come across as a disappointment. I am currently re-watching the series and I have read about some of the new complaints fans are having about this new season.

One of the most prominent complaints about the new season is that while all of the main characters deliver excellent performances, each episode is focused only one character, which hurts the chemistry that all of these characters shared together. In the premiere of season four, the episode focuses on the character of Michael Bluth. This episode shows how he is down on his luck, after running out of money and is now forced to live with his son George Michael in his college dorm. He cut ties from his family in order to finish building Sudden Valley, but he could not afford to build a road in order to connect the neighborhood to the rest of the city, making the development flop. He interacts with familiar characters and new guest stars but because the focus is solely on him, it’s hard to see the same show that was so popular.

One article from the Huffington Post went on to call some of the episodes that they feel like “DVD extras”. They go on to explain that the episodes focus too much on the individual character and don’t add to the rest of the show. When you are watching the first few seasons of the show and compare it to these new episodes, it almost feels like a completely different show.

The next issue with this new season is the extension of time for the episodes. The creator of the show Mitch Hurwitz, wanted to keep the new episodes around 20 minutes, the normal length for a regular TV sitcom. Netflix wanted to extend the time of the episodes, which explains why certain episodes are a little over half an hour long. This seems to be upsetting people because the extension of time is not helping the episodes, but seems to be making them drag on. I won’t give too much away about the rest of the season, but this is a preview of what is in tow for you this season.

Even with these complaints, there will be many people who are very happy and are enjoying the new season of Arrested Development. The only way for you to find out what has happened to the Bluth family is to watch the new season, streaming now on Netflix.
