An autopsy conducted on Emmy Award winning actor James Gandolfini confirms that the 51-year-old actor died of a heart attack.
Family friend Michael Kobold tells CNN, “There was nothing out of the ordinary. There was no foul play, there was no substance abuse, none of that."
Gandolfini was found dead Wednesday by his 13-year-old son while they vacationed in Rome, Italy.
The legendary Sopranos actor was in Italy planning to attend the 59th T.aormina Film Festival where he would receive an award. Organizers of the event have stated that instead of an award, they will be having a tribute to Gandolfini’s achievements throughout his career.
“Jim was happy, he was healthy, he was doing really fine," Kobold explained. "He was on vacation with his son. He has an 8-month-old daughter. Everything was going great. I just spoke to him on Father's Day."
Family members hoped to have Gandolfini’s body back in the states by mid-week in order to hold a funeral by Friday, Saturday or Sunda, Kobold informed. At this time his body remains in Italy and details for his funeral are unclear at this time.
