On Wednesday evening, Broadway theatres will dim their marquees in memory of James Gandolfini, who’s roles on the stage earned critical acclaim.

"James Gandolfini was a consummate actor who brought individuality to each role and inspired a true connection with the audience," Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League, said in a statement, as reported by Reuters . "Whether on screen or on the Broadway stage, he made every role believable and seemingly effortless. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends, and certainly to all of his fans who felt as if they knew his characters.”

Gandolfini died in Rome last week while on vacation with his family. The 51-year-old suffered a heart attack in his hotel room.

According to Yahoo , Gandolfini earned a Tony award nomination for his role in God of Carnage , appearing on Broadway in dramas such as A Streetcar Named Desire and On The Waterfront in the early 90s.

The marquees on Broadway will dim their lights at 8:00 pm on Wednesday evening for one minute.

Gandolfini’s body was returned to the United States on Sunday. His funeral is to be held in the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Devine on Thursday morning in New York City.
