Mother of Grammy winner Bruno Mars, Bernadette Hernandez died Saturday, June 1 after suffering from a brain aneurysm.

Hernandez, 55, was the mother of six children including Mars, 27 whose real name is Peter Hernandez according to NYdailynews. Hernandez was a singer and hula dancer who immigrated from the Philippines. Mars has spoken in the past about his mother’s encouragement and his musical upbringing. "I wouldn't trade it for anything, he said about spending time in the family band. "Because I feel like I can enjoy this so much." Hernandez past away at Queens Medical Center in Hawaii. She was reportedly there after suffering a heart attack on May 31.

When Mars was nominated for seven Grammys in 2011 his mother spoke about how proud of him she was. “Bruno I am so so proud of you. I knew this was going to happen but not this extent,” she said according to Hollywood life. “I still think of him as my baby and keep forgetting he is a man.” The singer was seen this week in Germany appearing on the season finale of Germany’s Next Top Model.
