CBS’ Under The Dome mini-series, based on the book of the same name by Stephen King and co-produced by Steven Spielberg, started off surprisingly strong for a summer premiere, drawing over 13 million viewers.

CBS managed to average the most viewers during prime time with 8.21 million viewers, reports HitFix. However, the network’s 2.1 18-49 rating was behind NBC’s coverage of Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The network stuck with repeats of sitcoms, including How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls and the Big Bang Theory, before Under The Dome started at 10 p.m.

According to Deadline, Under The Dome had 13.14 million viewers and a 3.2 18-49 rating. That’s the best summer premiere for CBS since Big Brother’s premiere in the summer of 2000. It was the second-highest drama debut of the season, tied with Fox’s The Following. Remarkably, it’s the best summer premiere for any of the networks since NBC’s Singing Bee launched with 13.31 million viewers in 2007.
