Glee singer Charice Pempengco confirmed that she is a lesbian in a new interview with the Filipino showbiz show The Buzz.

According to Us Weekly, Charice sat down with Boy Abunda who asked if the rumors surrounding her sexual orientation were actually true. After pausing a moment Charice proudly stated, “Opo, tomboy po ako," which translates to, "Yes, I am a lesbian."

“Now I feel free. I can go out of the house without fear and be certain that I'm not stepping on anybody's toes,” she explained.

According to E! News, Charice admitted that the news did not come easy for her mother and grandmother.

Us Weekly notes that the speculation surrounding her sexuality first surfaced after she debuted a drastically new look, cutting off her long locks to a shorter 'boyish' style, wearing no makeup and ditching dresses and heals.

“But to those who can accept me, thank you very much," she said to her fans who have stayed by her side. "We are all equal, whether you are gay or straight..."
