In the aftermath of her biological father, Patrick Lovato’s, sudden passing, Demi Lovato is breaking her silence on the tragic ordeal.

As previously reported by The Celebrity Cafe , the singer’s father, with whom she has had a rocky relationship, died at the age of 54. While details of his passing have not been revealed, he had been battling cancer.

Lovato has commented on his passing via Twitter , thanking her fans for their “support.”

The 20-year-old popstar documented her troubled relationship with her father through song, releasing an emotional track entitled, “For the Love of a Daughter” in 2011. According to Celebuzz , Lovato’s parents have been divorced since 1994.

The singer has been estranged from her father since 2007, saying, “When somebody lets you down after you've been the only one there for them, and so many times, you don't know what else to do."

Lovato’s father, a musican, commented on his relationship with his daughter in 2010, saying he has thought of the singer as his “partner” since she was young, but has felt that he needs to “respect” she and her mother by giving them “the space they need.”

At the time, he was afraid to reach out due to financial strain from seeking treatment for his illness.

"I have been embarrassed of my recent financial situation because of my medical issues,” he said. “It’s not because I go out and party or anything like that, that would be the last thing, and it’s not because I drink or do drugs. My family always knows where I am so if they wanted to contact me, they could. My phone number and address hasn’t changed, it’s not hard to find me. I’ve been here forever."
