Earlier this morning, June 28th, Demi Lovato performed her new single “Heart Attack” on Good Morning America.

On the show she spoke about her new single, “Made in America,” which is scheduled to drop right before July 4th.

“I'm proud to be an American,” she said according to Celebrity Gossip. “And I'm really proud of my country and how far we've come."

Lovato appeared to be her bright and cheery self when she took the stage this morning despite the death of her estranged father Patrick Lovato which occurred last week. E! reports that Lovato’s father suffered from mental illness, a feat that Demi herself has dealt with. She said that her father had a mental illness and wasn’t able to “function in society.” She acknowledged that she may not have had the best relationship with her father but when it comes down to it, he’s still her father.

“It’s difficult,” she said on Good Morning America. I grew up with him and he's a wonderful person, but I'm handling it OK."
