Demi Lovato’s father passed away late June 22, 2013.
While there are minimal details on the news of his death, Dallas Lovato, Demi’s sister, broke the news via her Twitter. According to Perez Hilton, Demi wasn’t very close to her father; In 2009 she told NY Daily News that:
“The last time I talked to him was two years ago. You try to have faith in somebody, even when you're the last person that believes in him. But when somebody lets you down after you've been the only one there for them, and so many times, you don't know what else to do.”
She went on to say that she had to cut her father out of her life completely because it was “hurting too much.”
Despite the fact that she didn’t have the best relationship with her father, close friend Miley Cyrus’s constant tweets to her bestie imply that Demi is still heartbroken by the news.
Demi herself hasn’t said much about her father’s passing, only that the rumors are true. She has thanked her fans on her Twitter for the concerned tweets and love being sent her and her family’s way.
