Devon Allman’s Turquoise
By Elaine Alluin
With his debut album Turquoise singer songwriter Devon Allman emerges in the lime light with his unique sound of alternative southern and garage rock n’ roll.
Allman gains inspiration from various artists including: Dire Straits, AC/DC, KISS, Santana, and The Rolling Stones. Allman’s mother had a wide variety of a vinyl collection that piqued his interest.
Allman expressed his journey in finding his own individual sound in an interview with Swaplan.com in 2009, saying, ”My path to finding music and making music is completely my own. It’s not from being brought up in the eye of the hurricane.”
The song that impacted Allmans life was “Layla,” by Derek and The Dominos. Allman said, "Although it's not straight blues, it's obviously dripping with soulful blues guitar. Layla has always appealed to me because you can really, really ‘feel’ what Clapton was going through.”
Allman mirrors that exact same passion and sentimental expression in his lyrics. With his words he has the ability to take his audience on his personal life journey.
“When I Left Home” is the first single on the album. It’s a catchy rock ballad that tells a story of starting his life on his own and working his way to becoming a rock star. The song showcases his bold voice that is laced with blues and soul.
Allman has the ability to cut through a jungle of emotions with his lyrics. In his track “Homesick” sings about his life on the road from spending time in hotel rooms, truck stops, and traveling from city to city.
The album has a consistent sound of authentic rock n’ roll with each strum of the guitar. Turquoise embraces Allman’s talent and unleashes the creativity of his soulful mind.
