A very pregnant Duchess of Cambridge made one of her last royal appearance before welcoming her first child with husband, the Duke of Cambridge next month. She wore a leopard-print dress to christen the cruise ship Royal Princess.

Kate Middleon, who’s eight months pregnant, attended the christening ceremony of the ship on Thursday, and a blue carpet was ready for her when she arrived in Southampton.

The Royal Princess is the latest in the British line of Princess Cruises, USA Today reports. As per tradition, Middleton (the godmother of the ship) smashed a bottle of champagne against the ship’s hull and said "I name this ship Royal Princess. May God bless her and all who sail in her."

Godmothers for past ships on the Princess Cruises fleet include Diana, actress Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn, and Margaret Thatcher.

The Telegraph notes that appointing women in powerful positions as the godmother is a tradition that dates back to the 19th century.

Her very last appearance before giving birth will take place this Saturday at the Trooping the Colou event.
