Gilbert Arenas, the former NBA star, was arrested for having a truckload of illegal fireworks, meaning that his personal July 4 celebration will have a little less bang.
TMZ, which managed to acquire a video of Arenas’ arrest, reports that he was picked up by California Highway Patrol at around 2:30 a.m. in Los Angeles for speeding. But as police approached the vehicle, they noticed something bigger - a load of fireworks in the bed of the truck.
Arenas was arrested and booked for possession of illegal fireworks, speeding and driving without a license. He was reportedly driving 80 miles per hour.
TMZ said that it wasn’t clear how many boxes of fireworks he had, but the site’s cameraman counted at least 20. The LAPD was actually called to the scene because Arenas had so much.
The site late said that he had over 100 pounds of fireworks and was released on bail.
According to USA Today, Arenas has had trouble with the law in the past. He pleaded guilty to carrying an unlicensed gun after he showed off a pistol in the Washington Wizards’ locker room in 2010.
He last played in the NBA during the 2011-2012 season for the Memphis Grizzlies. He was a three-time All-Star during his career.
