Disney has given the official green light to Girl Meets World, the spinoff from the 1990’s hit ABC series, Boy Meets World.

The official news comes Monday after discussions of a series spinoff began in late 2012. Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage have already signed on to reprise their roles as Cory and Topanga Matthews, a married couple looking on the life adventures of their seventh grade daughter Riley, played by Rowan Blanchard.

Savage will return as a history teacher, while Topanga runs an after-school hangout.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, executive vp of original programing for Disney Channels released a statement following the series order saying, “Boy Meets World and its story of adolescent self discovery resonated with an entire generation of tweens. In the same way audiences fell in love with Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, we look forward to introducing our viewers to their daughter Riley Matthews in Girl Meets World and building a memorable connection with a whole new generation of fans.”

Filming is slated to begin this summer in Los Angeles with a series debut expected in early 2014. Fishell expressed her excitement following the news posting on Twitter, “Congratulations to @BenSavage! C & T have always had a beautiful story & I can't wait 4 everyone to see the life they have created together.”
