Season four of Fox’s musical dramedy Glee made some major changes last season. The New Directions significantly expanded in terms of new cast members, while the characters that graduated moved forward with their lives in college. The show still had a very successful run this year, with not only getting renewed for season five, but also for a season six. Glee will continue to make more major changes in the coming seasons – starting with demoting four series regulars.
According to Deadline, Heather Morris (Brittany), Mark Salling (Puck), Amber Riley (Mercedes), and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) will no longer be series regulars. This isn’t the first time series regulars were let go of their spot. Last season, Dianna Agron (Quinn) and Jayma Mays (Emma) made the transition from regulars to guest stars and appeared only in selective episodes. The good news is, TVLine says that the above cast members will still likely return for guests spots as the seasons progress.
Between New Direction members that were introduced in season four and our old favorites, Glee will have a busy next two seasons. There are still many incomplete story lines and questions Glee has yet to wrap up, such as if Blaine will get the courage to ask Kurt’s hand in marriage, the result of Rachel’s callback for Funny Girl, and of course, Regionals results. The storylines that were wrapped up involved most of the cast who is leaving: Brittany turned out to be a genius and was accepted early into MIT, which she chooses to embark on right away, while Mercedes, who had a solo album coming out but was told to show more skin for the cover, decides she wants to break into singing her own way through her powerful talent.
There was a lot of buzz when Brittany announced at Regionals that she was accepted early into college and would be leaving right away. People questioned what would be in store for good old Britt and whether or not she’d still make appearances. But since Morris is pregnant and wants to focus on motherhood, this is the reason why Brittany will only make selective appearances.
But don’t worry Gleeks, we never say goodbye to anyone for very long!
