It’s time for Vine users to say goodbye. Instagram launched a new update today where users will be able to snap 15-second videos. The app also features 13 custom filters. Users can create a custom thumbnail, where you can choose the still image or the thumbnail, which your followers can see before playing the video. It also has a new camera stabilization called “cinema.”
After updating the App, you will see a video icon. Users have to hold it down to capture, and release it to ‘stop’ or ‘pause’. To view your followers’ videos you simply have to tap the camera button at the corner of every frame.
Instagram gained major popularity in 2011 when users started to become addicted to it and enjoyed sharing pictures with their friends and the public. It was also nice that it featured a variety of filters and borders that would make each picture unique.
Users could also hashtag and share their pictures with other social media sites.
Since then, Vine, an app similar to Instagram, gained popularity because users could also take videos and share them. However, many vine users and famous celebrities like Tyler, the Creator, use the app for comical purposes and post hilarious videos. Instagram will most likely gear towards serious and really “capturing the moment” videos. Vine also doesn’t have an array of filters to choose from, unlike the new Instagram feature.
According to CNN, The changes were announced by Instagram co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom, during a press conference at the headquarters of Facebook. He shared, "It's everything we know and love about Instagram, but it moves."
The feature is now available for all iOS and Android users
What do you think this means for Vine? Will people you make the switch?
