J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company is about to go to the Twilight Zone. The studio has acquired the rights to the final script by the show’s creator, Rod Serling, and is planning to make it a miniseries.
According to Deadline, the script is titled The Stops Along The Way. Serling completed the script in the months before his death and called it a “lovely script” in his final interview. The project will be produced with Warner Bros. TV, where Bad Robot is based.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the plan is to turn it into an event series, which is a fancy term for a mini-series. The networks have been more open to trying mini-series as of late, with CBS’ Under the Dome debuting this summer and Fox working on a 24 event series for next year.
Serling is still considered one of the greatest writers to ever work in Hollywood. The Writers Guild of America called The Twilight Zone the third-best written show of all time this week. Bryan Singer is also still trying to do a reboot of the series at CBS TV.
Abrams’ Person of Interest is returning in the fall. Bad Robot also has Almost Human and Believe debuting. His Star Trek Into Darkness hit theaters last month.
