After Criminal Minds's dramatic Season 8 finale, which, in case you missed it, included the agents losing a member of their team, Joe Mantegna is already revealing some teases for next season.

Mantegna, who plays David Rossi, told E! News while at the 2013 Monte Carlo Television Festival that he will be directing an episode of Season 9.

The actor also spoke about wanting to meet with the show's creative team and possibly having some say on some of the storylines but that doesn't mean he doesn't trust the writers.

"The writers are so good that we all give them free reign. I take my job seriously playing David Rossi, and they take their job seriously writing this show. Where they're going to lead us, I don't know. I didn't know how the season was going to end this year and I loved it. I thought it was dramatic, shocking, all those things," Mantegna said.

"The only thing I would hope for is they explore the personal sides of all our characters, all seven characters, and we've been doing that. I hope for more of that, I think the fans deserve it. They've been following the show for eight years and they deserve to know everything they can about the characters," he continued.

Criminal Minds has already delved into Rossi's past, specifically with his three ex-wives and his military background, but Mantegna said that we'll have to wait and see if any other secrets are revealed, as well as with the other characters.

Despite rumors that last season could have been the end for Criminal Minds, Mantegna believes the show will continue beyond Season 9 and even said you can call him crazy if next season does turn out to be the last.

"Look, I've been around long enough to know what has value and this show has tremendous value. It's still doing well in the United States and in Europe; it's like The Beatles. The show has incredible strength, it just does. That's not a vanity statement, it's fact. So why would it not be renewed again? We're going to do this season and we're going to do next season, and you heard it from me," he said.

Mantegna continued on to say, "I've been on The Simpsons for 20 years. Ten years of Criminal Minds is nothing!"

Season 9 of Criminal Minds returns to CBS in its usual time slot on Wednesdays at 9PM this fall on September 25, according to Deadline.
