Julianna Margulies, the acclaimed star of CBS’ The Good Wife, will have to face a lawsuit and trial after her management sued her over unpaid commissions.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Dontanville’s D/F Management sued the actress last year, claiming that she didn’t pay $420,000 in commissions. The managers said that she had agreed to pay them 10 percent of whatever acting and endorsement gigs she got while they represented her. Margulies was given the OK to say that the agreement was not on paper as a defence, but the judge today said that this wasn’t enough for her to avoid a trial.
TMZ notes that the judge agreed that there was more than enough evidence for the case to head to trial. D/F is specifically citing unpaid fees from her Good Wife role and a deal with L’Oreal they say they helped her get.
An exact trial date wasn’t scheduled, but it could be set for October.
“We are pleased, but not surprised, by the judge's well-reasoned decision rejecting Ms. Margulies' effort to dismiss,” Mathew Rosengart, who is representing Dontaville and D/F said following the hearing. “My clients are disappointed that she reneged on her agreement and filed a meritless motion. We look forward to the trial in October.”
Margulies, who also appeared in ER, won a Golden Globe for The Good Wife in 2010.
