Justin Bieber is the latest celebrity to sign on to go into space on Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic. The 19-year-old will be joined by his manager, Scooter Braun, on the trip, whenever it takes place.
The news was confirmed by Bieber and Branson themselves. According to The Daily Mail, Branson wrote, “Great to hear @justinbieber & @scooterbraun are latest @virgingalactic future astronauts. Congrats, see you up there!”
Bieber and Braun also told their followers about the trip and Bieber suggested that they film a music video while above the earth’s atmosphere.
Bieber is hardly the first celebrity to sign on to do this. Ashton Kutcher was among the first when he signed up last year. Branson wrote that Kutcher “is as thrilled as we are at the prospect of being among the first to cross the final frontier (and back!) with us and to experience the magic of space for himself.”
Singer Sarah Brightman and actor Leonardo DiCaprio will go up as well. DiCaprio will bring along a bidder who paid $1.2 million at a Cannes auction to secure the seat next to him.
The first flight is expected to take place on Christmas 2013, but it’s not clear when Bieber will go up.
