Gossip Girl actress Kelly Rutherford has filed for bankruptcy.

TMZ reports that the actress’ financial troubles stem from a lengthy custody battle with ex-husband Daniel Giersch. Rutherford filed for bankruptcy claiming debts totaling over $2 million.

During her divorce and in turn custody battle, Rutherford spent $1.5 million in legal fees. She now reportedly makes just under $1,300 a month.
In addition to her custody battle fees, Rutherford also failed to pay $350,000 in taxes.

Giersch and Rutherford divorced in 2009, People reports. Giersch, a German entrepreneur, was denied access to the United States after his via was revoked. The bitter custody battle stemmed from Giersch’s inability to remain in the United States as a judge allowed her children, Hermes and Helena, the ability to live in London with their father.

The actress opened up about the bitter custody battle back in September saying, “I will never stop fighting for my children. They're my babies and they're very young and this is going to affect them profoundly and I want to be there as much as I can to show them that this isn't my fault, this isn't something I wanted, and that's my concerns.”
