Proud mama Kristen Bell celebrated the ruling that the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional by proposing to longtime fiancé Dax Shepard.
“@daxshepard1 will you marry me? Xo #marriageequality #loveislove,” she tweeted in celebration.
Bell and Shepard have been dating since 2007 and engaged since 2010. Shepard previously expressed his desire to wait to marr his longtime love until marriage was legal to everyone during a July 2012 interview on The View. “We wouldn’t want to invite all of our friends who don’t have that right to celebrate us, who have that right. We just don’t feel right about that. Can you think about how rude that would feel?” he explained at the time according to People.
Bell also long expressed her views on marriage equality, telling CNN, “I don't believe in standing in the way of love and I want to stand up for that right…We're not going to have a party when half of our friends…can't do that thing we're doing. We're not goig to ask them to come celebrate a right they don't have. That's just tacky!"
Shepard has not directly responded to Bell's Twitter proposal.
Shepard and Bell are parents to daughter Lincoln.
