LeAnn Rimes has been promoting her new album Spitfire, and although her life has been a staple for fodder in the media due to her affair with now-husband Eddie Cibrian when he was married to Brandi Glanville and she was married to Dean Sheremet, she says her album was a chance for her to give her side of the story.

“I needed to somehow address it,” she said about singing about the situation, saying the media scandal was the “elephant in the room.”

Rimes also told Fox 411 “When you have people writing all of these things about your life, and most of the time it couldn’t be further from the truth, it really didn’t feel like a risk of telling the truth. I feel like I actually had a say in it, finally. My own life. Imagine that.”

She’s been engaged in an often public feud with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Glanville, and Rimes says “I don’t cause drama for the sake of drama, to use it as a career platform. As long as that is going to remain a focus of anyone else’s life involved in the situation then I don’t know how much it’s going to calm down, but we’ll see."

Just Jared notes Rimes promoted the album on Good Morning America on Monday, where she talked about recording songs like “What Have I Done,” calling them “therapeutic.”
