James Gandolfini, best known for his role as Tony Soprano in the HBO series The Sopranos has died.
Gandolfini is said to have suffered a heart attack in Italy, TMZ reports. The notorious Emmy Award winning actor was on hand set to attend the 59th Taormina Film Festival in Sicily.
“Everyone is in tears,” a source expressed to New York Daily News.
In addition to his role in The Sopranos, Gandolfini has also taken on roles in the Oscar nominated Zero Dark Thirty, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone , Killing Them Softly and starred in the Tony Award winning Broadway hit God of Carnage.
Gandolfini kicked off his career starring alongside Alec Baldwin in Broadways, A Street Called Desire in 1992. He took on his now iconic role as lead mobster Tony Soprano in 1999.
The 51-year-old actor was currently working on Animal Rescue as well as HBO’s Criminal Justice, set to air at a later date.
Gandolfini is survived by his wife, former model Deborah Lin, a son and newborn baby daughter.
