It’s no new news that rising star Macklemore supports gay marriage. His newly released single titled “Same Love” off of his album The Heist speaks out for gay rights in which Macklemore shares the story of how his uncle is gay and how he hopes that someday he will be able to marry the love of his life.

So it’s no surprise that Macklemore stood up for Danielle Powers, a former student at Grace University. According to Perez Hilton, Powers was only months from graduating when the university kicked her out for being in an openly gay relationship with her girlfriend Michelle Rogers. The Christian school didn’t stop there – they sent Powers a bill for more than $6,000 for the semester that Powers wasn’t even allowed to attend.

Furious with the university, Rogers posted a petition on Change.org to have the tuition fee waived. The petition has reached sixty-five thousand signatures.

When Macklemore heard the news, he announced to Twitter how disgusted and shocked he was that this was happening in this day and age. On top of that, Macklemore and Danielle Powers know each other on a first-name basis. During one of his concerts in Omaha, Macklemore allowed Powers and her girlfriend to take the stage so Powers could propose to her sweetheart – and she said yes. You can see the adorable video below as well as the link to the petition.
