Marie Osmond appeared on The Talk Monday (June 10) afternoon and shared her thoughts on Paris Jackson’s suicide attempt.
Osmond, who spent her teenage years in the spotlight alongside her musical brothers, is no stranger to the tragedy of suicide. The 53-year-old personality lost her son three years ago when he took his own life.
The singer offered her perspective on suicide and the severity of a child’s cry for help, as well as what she feels could be done to help Jackson’s mental state improve.
"I also know what it feels like to be the celebrity and have a child,” Osmond said, as reported by E! News . “I have a son who committed suicide as well, and you know, as I knew I was coming on this show, I looked at her Twitter page and the thing that kinda stood out to me as a mother is she has this picture of Van Gogh, and you all know Van Gogh is very dark and depressed and ended up committing suicide and that is a big flag as a mother."
Osmond added that she feels the attempt should not be seen as a release of Jackson’s negative emotions. "When I heard them say she was in the hospital and laughing and whatever...this child's embarrassed…This child's gonna be like 'I'm fine,' she's not fine.”
“Who knows what the answers are, but I'd seriously look,” Osmond said, on finding the source of Jackson’s fragile state. “My heart breaks for her."
Jackson’s demeanor is reportedly improving, though sources say that her episode could be linked to her current living situation. Jackson and her two brothers are under the legal guardianship of their grandmother, Katherine Jackson, but sources say Jackson wants to live with her biological mother, Debbie Rowe.
However, The New York Daily News reports that Rowe has no plans to fight her daughter’s grandmother for guardianship.
“It would take Katherine dying or becoming very ill for Debbie to seek legal guardianship in court,” said a source close to the family, adding that Rowe was not given guardianship based on stipulations from the late King of Pop’s will.
“Who knows what the answers are, but I'd seriously look. My heart breaks for her."
