Melissa Etheridge is clearing up comments she made about Angelina Jolie’s decision to undergo a preventative mastectomy, and she’s revealing she hasn’t spoken to her former good friend Brad Pitt in years.
Etheridge performed at Pitt’s wedding to Jennifer Aniston in 2000, and she said she hasn’t talked to him since he’s been with Jolie.
The “Come to My Window” singer said in an interview with Washington Blade that Jolie’s decision was “the most fearful choice you can make when confronting anything with cancer.”
On Tuesday, she told Us Weekly “I in no way meant for that statement to reach [Brad Pitt] in that way. It was not meant for him… or his wife." Pitt and Jolie aren’t actually married, but have been together since 2005.
"Everyone's personal health is their own personal choice," she added.
Etheridge said she hasn’t spoken to him in a long time, confirming "I haven't, um, spoken to him . . . since he 'married' Angelina. But we were very close before that. I don't know . . . I have reached out.”
She also said she isn’t in touch with Aniston, who’s getting married to Justin Theroux, either. "I haven't heard from her either,” she said. “We all kinda got our own families and went our own way. It's funny we all were together and then it all went POOF."
