Actor Michael Douglas has come forth publicly and stated that his throat cancer.
The 68-year-old actor and Oscar award winner was diagnosed with throat cancer in August of 2010. According to The Guardian, Douglas was experiencing discomfort of the throat area for months and had seen various specialists for a diagnosis, but the doctors misdiagnosed it every time and instead prescribed him antibiotics. Douglas credits a friend-recommended doctor in Montreal, Canada for properly diagnosing Douglas’s physical distress and determining the cause of it. Stress from the internment of his son’s conviction is what Douglas believed as the cause of his cancer, however, the doctor had informed Douglas otherwise, according to MSN.
"I will always remember the look on his face," Douglas has previously said. "He said: 'We need a biopsy.' There was a walnut-size tumour at the base of my tongue that no other doctor had seen,” Douglas said in a public comment.
Douglas, now the husband of Catherine Zeta-Jones, has now taken a reflection on his past life as he battled public accusations claiming that he was a sex addict, including executing oral sex which he now blames as the cause for this throat cancer.
"I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer…without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [Human Papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus…And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it,” Douglas responded after being asked regarding his old habits and activities.
According to ABC News, Michael Douglas has since 2010 undergone extensive chemotherapy treatment and is making progress. He has returned to acting, his latest movie Behind the Candelabra with Matt Damon premiering on HBO on May 26, 2013.
