The TV series Under the Dome, adapted from the Stephen King’s novel of the same title, premieres this Monday, June 24th at 10pm on CBS and Global. The mini drama will consist of 13 episodes that will air this summer.
According to Yahoo! News the series centers on the town of Chester’s Mill, which suddenly becomes cut off from the rest of the world by an invisible dome. They cannot reach others by internet or cell phones. Most importantly, no supplies can be delivered to the town, and as resources diminish, residents begin to panic. King revealed, “The first time out, I'm just trying to scare the s--- out of you.”
Under the Dome, which boasts Steven Spielberg as one of the executive producers, will feature Mike Vogel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre)and Breaking Bad's Dean Norris. Also starring in the series are Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight), Natalie Martinez, and Britt Robertson. While the number of episodes for the show is considered limited, CBS Entertainment’s president, Nina Tassler, revealed that a return next summer, as well as a winter cycle, is possible.
King told Rolling Stone, “[The series] is obviously a metaphor for the human condition. We are all trapped under a dome, which is our fragile atmosphere. We're trapped in here with limited resources. There's only so much to go around, and not enough for all of us. How do you handle that? What kind of person do you become? What is the nature of society? I have no idea the answer to any of those questions, so that's why we're doing this TV show, to try and figure it out. It's this little terrarium, a human experiment.” Tune in Monday night to CBS to find out how it all begins and to answer the questions King poses.
