NASCAR driver, Jason Leffler, has died from sustaining injuries on Wednesday after a race.

Leffler, 37, was driving at the Bridgeport Speedway in Swedesbro, New Jersey for a qualifying race when the crash happened, according to CNN.

He was on his fourth turn of the sprint race when his car hit a wall, drove off the track, and flipped several times before stopping. Leffler had to be pulled out of the vehicle before being sent to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

“NASCAR extends its thought, prayers, and deepest sympathies to the family of Jason Leffler who passed away earlier this evening,” said a statement from NASCAR. “For more than a decade, Jason was a fierce competitor in our sport and he will be missed.”

USA Today reports, Leffer started his career with three consecutive wins at the USAC Midget Championship between 1997-1999. He raced full time in the Nationwide series between 2006-2011, where he won twice. He had a career high at Indianapolis Speedway Park in 2007, when he placed third in points.

Sprint racing has reported fatal accidents before. In March, two spectators died when a car went off-track in California.
