President Obama publicly urged the Senate on Tuesday to pass the “gang of eight” immigration reform bill just before its first vote on the bill.

The Senate will vote on Tuesday at 2:15 pm to formally begin debate on the immigration measure, according to NBC.

The President stated that there is “no good reason to play procedural games or engage in obstruction.”

“If you’re serious about actually fixing the system, then this is the vehicle to do it,” Obama said on Tuesday.

“If you’re not serious about it, if you think that a broken system is the best America can do, then I guess it might make sense to try to block it. But if you’re actually serious and sincere about fixing a broken immigration system, this is the vehicle to do it,” he reiterated, reports the Huffington Post.

Tuesday’s procedural vote is expected to pass, as many Republicans have said they would vote to begin debate, though most have not committed to vote either for or against the bill.

Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire (pictured right) recently joined the GOP members to formally support the bill, a new addition to the four Republican Senators in the immigration “gang of eight.”

“The good news is that every day that goes by, more and more Republicans and Democrats are coming out to support this common-sense immigration reform bill,” said the President.

“To truly deal with this issue, Congress needs to act,” Obama stated. “And that moment is now.”
