New England Patriots star tight end Aaron Hernandez was questioned by police and had his home searched in connection to a possible homicide investigation.
ABC News reports that Hernandez’s North Attleborough, Massachusetts home was searched after a man police called an “associate” of the player was found dead. State Police and prosecutors came to the $1.3 million home around 5 p.m. and questioned Hernandez for hours. Law enforcement soruces for ABC News say that he was initially uncooperative.
It was reported that a rental vehicle with Rhode Island plates linked Hernandez to the investigation. According to Sports Illustrated, sources say his name was tied to the vehicle, a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban. Attleboro’s Sun Chronicle had first reported about the vehicle and its connection to the investigation.
The investigation started after the body of a 27-year-old Boston man was discovered by a jogger a mile from Hernandez’s home.
Hernandez’s agency, Athletes First, didn’t give SI.com a comment. Patriots team spokesman Stacey James told Boston.com, “I am aware of the reports, but I do not anticipate that we will be commenting publicly during an ongoing police investigation.”
Reports note that around 7 p.m., two men tried to leave the house while police were still there. Police stopped them, but did not arrest them.
Hernandez was drafted by the Patriots in 2010 and made the Pro Bowl last season.
