The Food Network has chosen not to renew Paula Deen’s contract.
“Food Network will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month,” a network spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.
Last month, Deen admitted that she once planned a plantation-themed wedding for her brother in 2007. She also admitted to using the N-word in the past.
She canceled an interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show, where she was going to discuss the issue.
Lisa T. Jackson, a former restaurant employee, is currently suing Paula Deen and her brother, Bubba Heirs, for discrimination. Jackson accuses Deen of using the N-word as recently as 2007 while discussing the idea of a “plantation”-themed wedding for Deen’s brother.
"I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong that I've done. I want to learn and grow from this. Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable," Deen said in a videotaped press release to the Chicago Tribune.
The videotaped apology can be viewed onYouTube.
