Paula Deen’s sons are coming to their famous mom’s defense after a possibly career-breaking scandal involving the former Food Network star admitting to using the “n-word” during a deposition.

Jamie and Bobby Deen talked to CNN’s Good Day about the scandal, saying the media’s claims of racism is "character assassination.”

“Neither one of our parents ever taught us to be bigoted toward any other person for any reason," said Bobby Deen. “Our mother is one of the most compassionate, good-hearted, empathetic people that you'd ever meet. These accusations are very hurtful to her, and it's very sad."

He continued that he’s “disgusted” by the whole situation, including her firing from the Food Network after 11 years.

E! Online notes Smithfield Foods has cut ties with her, and QVC may as well.

Jamie Deen added it’s “completely absurd to think there is an environment of racism in our business, and it's really disrespectful to the people that we work with.”
