The autopsy for Reid Flair, the promising son of WWE wrestler Ric Flair, has ruled that he died from a deadly mix of heroin and prescription drugs.
Reid, whose real last name is spelled Fliehr, died in March at the age of 24. He was found in a hotel room in Charlotte, North Carolina. Police did not suspect foul play, initially suspecting that drugs were the cause of death, which turned out to be the case.
According to the Charlotte Observer, the autopsy was released by the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s office on Friday, showing that Reid had mixed heroin with a variety of other drugs. There were also signs of clonazepam, which is used to relax muscles, and alprazolam, which is marketed as Xanax, in his system.
“It (the report) makes it harder,” Reid’s mother Beth Fliehr told the Observer. “I knew his fears and I knew how to help him. All he wanted to do was stay busy, train and keep his mind off the old triggers, then go back to Japan. He was doing really well there.”
Ric Flair told the paper, “I loved him...He should have been on top of the world, but he was fighting a battle he couldn’t win. I hope people remember his laugh, his spirit, and his love of life.”
TMZ reports that Reid had just finished wrestling in Japan. He had issues with heroin in the past, having overdosed three times in two years.
