The remains of a plan carrying Fashion heir Vittorio Missoni, his wife Maurizia and four others was found this week, nearly five months after it disappeared.
As we previously reported, family and friends feared the worst after his plane did not land at Simon Bolivar International Airport following a 42 minute flight; at the time no trace of the plane could be found despite the best efforts of sea rescuers.
According to E! News, the remains of the plane were found and confirmed by the families of the deceased in a heartbreaking statement by the families.
"On behalf of the Missoni, Castiglioni, Foresti, and Scalvenzi families, it is confirmed that the airplane number YV615BN-2A, which disappeared on Jan. 4, 2013 with Vittorio Missoni, Maurizia Castiglioni, Guido Foresti, Elda Scalvenzi, pilot Hernan Jose Marchan and copilot Juan Carlos Ferrer Milano on board, has been found,” the statement begins. “The airplane has been identified on the fifth day of the current search mission, thanks to the technology of the oceanographic American ship, the Deep Sea. The wreck is located in the waters to the North of the Los Roques Archipelago."
The families thanked those who helped find the remains of the plane, but did not divulge any details. The Venezuelan Government is said to contact the correct personal in finding the details as to what made the plan crash into the waters that frightful January afternoon.
