Rhys Ifans, who played the Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man, is making the jump to television. He will star as Sherlock Holmes’ brother in the second season premiere of CBS’ Elementary.
CBS said that the episode will feature Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) returning to London to take on an old case. There, he has to face his brother, Mycroft, who he had a falling out with. Holmes and Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) get to stay in Mycroft’s home, 221B Baker Street. Joan has to try and temper their differences while they live together.
“I could not be more excited to have Rhys coming aboard,” Elementary creator Robert Doherty said in a statement. “I've always been a tremendous fan and feel very honored to have him in the fold. Equally excited are Jonny and Lucy, both of whom have worked with Rhys in feature films. I think this is going to be a lot of fun for all of us.”
Ifans’ recent credits include Anonymous, The Amazing Spider-Man, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and The Five-Year Engagement. He also stars in the highly anticipated Serena from director Susanne Bier. That film also co-stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.
Elementary’s second season kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 26. You can check out our recap of the season one finale here.
