June 4th, 2013 rang in the 60th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. He Queen was joined by the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge and her husband William in addition to Duchess of Camilla and William’s younger brother Prince Harry.
The original coronation took place on June 2, 1953 after the mourning of Elizabeth’s father King George VI, which followed her ascension to the throne on February 6, 1952, according to Just Jared.
The service was held at Westminster Abbey.
The anniversary service had speeches given by the Prime Minister, secretary-general of the Commonwealth and the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The Queen was accompanied to Westminster Abbey by her husband, Prince Philip.
The Queen was once again re-united with her Maid of Honor, Winston Churchill’s niece Lady Rosemary Spencer-Churchill who was 23 years old at the time of the first coronation.
The crown that was used in the original coronation is over 350 years old. The crown had been moved from the Tower of London to Westminster Abbey in honor of the anniversary service according to The Telegraph.
The ceremony consisted of royal guest, choir hymns, prayers in the Queen’s name and an overall feeling of nostalgia for the Queen.
After the ceremony took place, the Queen left with her husband by her side and the rest of her family following behind.
