News Corp Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch and wife Wendi Deng are ending their 14 year marriage.
According to Deadline, who first reported the news, Murdoch filed for divorce from Deng Thursday morning in New York. News of the divorce comes just before News Corp plans to split its assets into two companies, which Murdoch will run. According to the report, the splitting of the company and the divorce’s timing is coincidental and have nothing to do with one another.
Deng and Murdoch have a prenuptial agreement in place, Reuters notes adding that the split will have no effect on the company’s future plans.
“The relationship between the husband and wife has broken down irretrievably,” a source close to the couple revealed to The Associated Press.
Sources tell Deadline that the marriage became rocky around the time of the Academy Awards when Deng grew rapidly impatient with her husband with a source revealing that she was “snippy.”
Deng and Murdoch have two children together, 11-year-old Grace and 9-year-old Chloe.
Neither party has commented on the divorce publicly at this time.
