Sandra Bullock is reportedly to star as Miss Hannigan in the 2014 remake of Annie , also starring nine-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis of Beasts of the Southern Wild .

Will Smith and Shawn “Jay Z” Carter are at the helm of the big-budget reworking of the beloved 1982 movie musical, which was originally meant to star Smith’s daughter Willow as the cheeky orphan Annie.

Moviephone reports that young Smith turned down the role, telling her father, “You know Daddy, I don’t think so.”

Smith said that earlier this year his daughter looked at him and said, “'Daddy, I have a better idea, how about I just be 12.'"

Bullock initially passed on the role as well, according to The Wrap , but the Oscar-winning actress is now in negotiation. If Bullock decides to join the cast, she will play alongside Jamie Foxx, who is appearing in the re-worked Daddy Warbucks role. Foxx’s character, Benjamin Stacks, is a New York City mayoral candidate.

Will Gluck is to direct the updated musical, working from a script written by Oscar-winner Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna. The film is said to open December 2014.
