Every now and then you’ll hear a song on the radio from your past. You’ll turn it up because at one point it was your number one jam. You know every word and the song still puts a big grin on your face because you remember the days when it was overplayed on the radio and how it rocked your socks right off of those feet. You can remember every word to the song, but what ever happened to the artist?
Those, my friends, are called one-hit wonders. Artists who come out with amazing songs that shoot up the Top 40 lists and get stuck in listeners’ heads for weeks on end. Slowly they fall down the charts and soon they’re forgotten, never to be heard from again.
Below is a list of 10 one-hit wonders in the past 10 years. Some of the songs will make you laugh, some will make you cry and some will make you question the sanity of the music industry. But here it is. Enjoy:
10. Paris Hilton – "Stars Are Blind"
Everyone knows Paris Hilton as the spoiled, rich socialite. But not everybody remembers that at one point the socialite had a music career. Hilton came out with one successful single, “Stars Are Blind” off of her album titled Paris. Despite raised eyebrows as to whether or not the socialite was lipsyncing or not, Hilton has announced via her twitter that she was working on a sophomore album. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what Paris has in store for us.
9. LEN – "Steal My Sunshine"
I wrote about them in my -Timeless Summer Jams and I’ll mention them again because what in the world happened to LEN? They released this one killer summer single and then disappeared off of the face of the Earth. It’s a shame, really. This song really is wonderful.
8. Baha Men – "Who Let The Dogs Out?"
If you don’t know this song then you’ve been living under a rock. This song was an anthem back in middle school. Everybody knew every word, every bark and every beat to this song. Unfortunately, despite Baha Men’s attempt to make a comeback with their song “Move It Like This” they will never be able to live down “Who Let The Dogs Out” or break that record.
7. Eamon – "Don’t Want You Back"
This song caused quite the controversy back when it was first released. It was the anthem of every breakup and every heartache. Despite its initial sweet and low tone, the lyrics are anything but gentle. Whoever this Eamon guy is, he is definitely angry with his ex-girlfriend. Which is funny because she made a response to his angry single.
6. Frankee – "F*** You Right Back"
I think we all can agree that she won this round. But in all honesty, who are these people and where did they come from?
5. Thalia – "I Want You"
This was such a great jam then and now. Thalia’s voice is beautiful and who doesn’t love Fat Joe? According to what I could gather from her website the one-hit wonder moved into the Latin genre where she was more successful than when she was singing pop songs in English. Good for you, Thalia.
4. Terror Squad – "Lean Back"
When I originally looked for this song I typed Fat Joe in as the artist. Surprisingly the artist is . . . Terror Squad? Who? Sorry boys but I think Fat Joe outshined you on this one.
3. Ashley Parker Angel – "Let U Go"
And hear all of the teen girls sigh with lust. Ashley Parker Angel, former O-Town singer songwriter tried to go solo but only produced one album from the deal.
2. Lil Flip – "Sunshine"
This song is mainly on the list due to the chick who is featured on the track. Her name is Lea Sunshine, and since then she has dropped out of the media’s eye. It’s a shame, really, because her voice is amazing.
1. Nine Days – "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)"
I think at one point every teenage girl had this song featured on their AIM away message. Despite the teenage girls who adored this song, this band never made it past “Absolutely.”
